Management

After planting it is essential that the site be revisited frequently to ensure any problems are tackled as soon as possible.  During the maintenance period there are a number of things to monitor in the plantation.  Each season of the year demands different activities within the plantation.

The main activities within the maintenance phase are weed control; fertilising and maintaining correct stocking levels. Most of this work is carried out manually.
It is generally accepted that if a site has no major problems and it is well maintained, after four years, it is considered to be established. After this period the management of the plantation is much less intensive.
